The Village Elms -
Sunday Morning in New England
This is a nicely framed antique 19th century (circa 1878) hand colored engraving on paper entitled The Village Elms – Sunday Morning in New England. The artist was Alfred Fitch Bellows (American 1829-1883), engraved by James Duthie (American), and it was printed by William M. Pate & Co.
The scene depicts American village life in New England with stately horses, buggies, classic buildings, and people walking along the pathways. The village church can also be seen in the background, along with other town buildings.
Very nicely preserved and a glimpse into an era gone by.
